This morning, when I looked out into the Winter-Wonderland I thought two things: ‘I love winter, this is gorgeous’ and ‘yikes, it’s barely the end of December, we might have three more months of this’.

Animals Speak English

Turns out, animals speak English, and German, and any other language that you choose to talk in.

Every day, David and I are amazed, a-mazed, how much English our animals understand. 
This morning, Scout, our 18 months old dog took an empty can of cat food from the garbage can (!) and brought it onto the bed to 'finish it up'.

Every year around this time, I'm challenged to face my biggest nightmare: mowing the sloping hillsides of our property in Vermont to reveal some last summer grass for the horses.
The crazy thing is ... I love driving my tractor! And yet, I'm mortified to drive the tractor on - what feels to me - steep angles in fear the tractor and I will tip over.

Unexpected HelperHere in Vermont, we spend part of our summer to stack wood so we have fuel for our wood stove in the winter.
Stacking wood is one of those meditative exercises I love. Taking piece after piece, trying to fit it 'just so'. Focused, yet repetitive. Work like that really frees my mind.
